Tractor blockade continues to gridlock Greece on Friday with noon showdown (vid)

Farmers are amping the pressure on the government in the hopes that it will curb its social security reforms

Farmers are continuing to intermittently block arterial roads across the Greek national highway in an effort to place pressure on the Greek Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) government that is planning to make social security changes that will impact the agricultural sector.

Central roads at Tempi in Thessaly, Kastro at Viotia and at the customs of Kastanies and Kipous. At the same time, farmers will block the Malgara region and roads leading to the Egnatia Highway at Kerdyllia in Northern Greece. More symbolic blocks are to take place at Niseli Alexandreia whereas the national Thessaloniki-Edessa highway will remain closed around the area of Halkidona.

More than 6,000 tractors have taken to the roads in protest of planned social security measures. 2,000 tractors are at Nikaia, Piraeus, where the national highway has remained closed since Thursday.

At noon on Saturday, there will be blocks at Tempi.

– Blocks at the customs area of Kipon and Kastaneon from farmers from the border region of Evros from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday

– Nestos bridge of the old national highway will be intermittently closed at Xanthi

– A new block will be created at Kouloura, Imathia, near Egnatia Highway

– Breeders at Arta have blocked the region of Komboti and will be back on Saturday with a protest rally at the center of the town at noon and they will travel to Thessloniki on January 28
