Turkish flyover of Greek isle as refugee crisis continues

Turkish military continues infringements of Athens FIR, violations of national air space

The Greek military on Tuesday reported that two Turkish F-16 warplanes recorded an illegal flyover of the small Greek isle of Farmakonissi the same day.

The Dodecanese isle has been at the center of attention over the past 48 hours as a wooden vessel carrying third country nationals from the Turkish coast aiming to land on the island sunk, drowning 34 people, including 15 children.

According to reports, the two intruders were identified as intercepted by Hellenic Air Force planes.

Most of the war refugees or would-be economic migrants entering Greece in 2015 have disembarked from Turkish territory, often using Turkish migrant smugglers.
