Two ISIS suspects arrested in Alexandroupolis

One of them was arrested in 2005 by Bosnia’s police after searching his house and finding explosives

Hellenic Police arrested two men with Swedish passports who traveled by car from Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos to Alexandroupolis, northern Greece carrying with them two knives of 23cm and 24cm and military uniforms.

According to preliminary information the two men wanted to enter Turkey and then head towards Syria.

Both men are detained on the charges of possessing war material in order to supply a terrorist organization.

One of the two man was arrested in 2005 by Bosnia’s police after searching his house and finding explosives, an explosive belt and a video threatening for bomb attacks the Capitol and the White House, U.S.

The man on the video is believed to be Mirsad Bektasevic, 29, and he was considered to be a member of Al Qaeda.

He was sentenced to 14 years in prison in Bosnia, he served part of his sentence and then he was set free. Afterwards, he went to Sweden where he requested and received political asylum.

The second man arrested is Al Hasani Amer, 20, and comes from Yemen.

It is not cleared yet if they managed to pass the knives through baggage control of Athens International Airport or if they purchased them after arriving in Greece.
