Two new boat tragedies with at least 42 dead, including children, in the Aegean

More lives claimed at Farmakonisi and Kalolymnos in the perilous crossing through the Aegean

A new migrant tragedy took place east of the small Greek Aegean island of Farmakonisi at dawn on Friday. Six children and two women lost their lives in the tragedy.

Greek Coast Guards confirmed that a wooden dinghy carrying migrants crashed into rocks resulting in two women and six children meeting a tragic death.

Greek authorities and Frontex rushed to the scene managing to save one young girl and the rest of the passengers.

Meanwhile, at least 34 people (16 women, seven men and 11 children) lost their lives when a wooden sailboat with an unknown number of passengers sank in seas northeast of Kalolimnos, where the coast guard managed to retrieve 22 men and four women from the water and take them to Kalymnos.
