The Turkish authorities had issued an alert of attacks in Ankara and other Turkish cities by the PKK and jihadists. The statement released by the US Embassy in Ankara called on US travelers to be especially careful due to fears of threats by international and domestic terrorist groups. The announcement underlines that terrorist attacks could target American citizens and foreign visitors and urges them to stay informed by Turkish authorities on best safety practices. ‘Even peaceful demonstrations could develop into violent conflicts and culminate in tensions’, reads the announcement.
