On Monday the United States urged Russia to resume talks with Ukraine on the price of natural gas which supplies Kiev.

“The European Union presented a fair and reasonable compromise, which Kiev accepted. We urge Russia to recommit to negotiations “said the State Departments spokesman Mr. Jen Psakis, after Russia cut off gas supplies to Kiev, after the failure of discussion between them.

Mr. Psaki argued that resumption of talks constitutes “a necessary step” to resolve the issue.
