The Global march for the climate takes place at the Place de la Republique in Paris on November 29. Despite the ban on gatherings enforced by French authorities in light of Friday November 13 attacks, protestors took to the streets and hundreds of thousands of people marched in 57 cities around the world, including Greece. All up, more than 2,000 events are happening around the world.

In the French capital, initially protestors left their shoes as a symbolic sign of protest, however later one protest turned violent causing police to deploy tear gas at a large group and at least 100 arrested.

World leaders have expressed hope for progress at Paris, after the majority of countries around the world submitted voluntary pledges and measures to reduce their own emissions ahead of this year’s talks, as opposed to the UN imposing top-down targets.
