Weather: new bad weather with heavy rain and thunderstorms – Which areas will be affected

Snow in the mainland mountains – Dust transport from Africa and mud showers – The forecast until Friday

With a bad weather entering this new week, as a barometric low from Italy brings heavy rain and thunderstorms to our country.

The storm will start in the afternoon from the west and is expected to peak on Tuesday (4/3), with the phenomena being strong in places in eastern Macedonia, Thrace and the eastern Aegean islands.

Meteorological conditions also favour the transport of African dust.

As Theodoros Kolydas, director of “EMY” (national meteorological service), notes in a post, “the low pressure system created in the Gulf of Leo, already affects Italy and from noon-afternoon Monday will move eastwards affecting the Ionian islands in the late afternoon.

During Monday night into Tuesday the front will affect many areas of mainland Greece , heading towards the East Aegean islands.

The forecast of Tasos Arniakos

“We expect showers and thunderstorms in the West from tomorrow afternoon and slowly, progressively, they will cross over,” Tasos Arniakos told ANT1’s main newscast.

“In Attica we expect bad weather through the night, dawn to dusk on Tuesday.

From midday Tuesday onwards, the weather will improve in the main body of the country, but there will be in the northeastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese.

The southerly winds will reach 6-7 Beaufort, carrying dust from Africa. Due to the southerly winds, the mercury will be at its highest,” he added.

The forecast of Klearchos Marousakis

OPEN meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis posted about the bad weather wave, writing about a “new barometric low that formed in the Gulf of Leo.

Thus, from Monday afternoon and from the west we will have a rapid passage of rain – storms that locally not excluded to have intensity.

As we head towards midday – afternoon on Tuesday this rain – storm front will have reached the eastern Aegean Sea with a simultaneous improvement of the weather further west, an improvement however that will be accompanied by periods of instability which instability seems to accompany us until Friday or so as colder air in the middle and upper atmosphere will not allow for a substantial improvement of the weather, while the temperature below seems to be dropping and polar air masses from Ukraine, although they will be displaced towards Turkey, seem to “touch” our country without this meaning that we will be in conditions of heavy winter”.

The weather today

A change in the weather is expected from midday hours in the Ionian Sea and the western mainland with showers and thunderstorms.

The phenomena, which will be locally intense until the evening, will extend further east.
Localised and less intense rain will also occur from midday in Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace and the North Aegean.
