Why PM Samaras rejects the special purpose government scenario

Apparently, Mr. Samaras believes that clean and straightforward solutions should be adopted

In the wake of the first unsuccessful vote to elect a President of the Hellenic Republic, Prime Minister Samaras continues to reject all scenarios for a coalition government or a special purpose government.

Commenting on the Prime Minister’s stance, an associate of Mr. Samaras noted the following: “With whom can we form a special purpose government? With SYRIZA’s leader who is always attacking us or with Mr. Panos Kamenos who wants to see us behind bars? Furthermore, we are open to the possibility of early elections and those who propose the solution of a coalition government disagree about whether they should take place in October, November or December. Everyone has a different proposal.”

“Moreover, which policies are to be implemented until the elections? The ones that SYRIZA and ANEL denounce?” the same source asks.

On the other hand, there are some from the PM’s close environment who dismiss as ridiculous the speculations that Mr. Samaras wants early elections and also object to the initiatives taken in the last few days by the former PM and New Democracy leader Constantine Mitsotakis.

Apparently, Mr. Samaras believes that clean and straightforward solutions should be adopted: If the Greek parliament fails to elect a President of the Republic, the country must resort to the polls so that the citizens can break the deadlock.
