EU Commissioner calls for lighter economic surveillance for Greece

Greece’s relationship with the troika will change says, EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner P. Moscovici

EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici told the French News Agency on Thursday that monitoring of the economy from Greece’s international creditors will need to show more restraint with less interventions. These comments were made in the aftermath of a two-day visit to Athens on Tuesday.

The drastic measures forced by the troika of Greece’s international creditors from the European Commission (EC), European Central Bank (ECB) and International Monetary Fund) have lead the country to dialogue for early presidential elections in Greece.

Despite the huge debt and high unemployment rates, Greece is now experiencing financial growth, marking a “new stage” in its relationship with Greece, said Mr. Moscovici. “If there is a credit line worth 10 billion euros it is worth having surveillance,” he said, though it will be in a lighter form.
