Antiskari fire finally contained

The authorities are still looking for two individuals from Antiskari who are suspected of having caused the fire

The wildfire which broke out at 11 o’clock Saturday morning at Antiskari of southern Iraklion, Crete island and continued burning for a second day on Sunday, was finally contained by the Fire Department’s persistent efforts, despite strong winds.

The wildfire had spread to the area of Lenta, at the Tzigouna housing estate and to Gerokampos, having burnt scattered farmhouses, crops, greenhouses and grassland. There is currently no active fire front any more, with a strong firefighting force still in the area in order to suppress any rekindling.

The authorities are still looking for two individuals from Antiskari who are suspected of having caused the fire.
