Cyprus and France sign a Defence Agreement

The Agreement is considered vital by both parties

A new Defence Agreement which updates, strengthens and expands into new areas of cooperation the existing Defence Agreement between Cyprus and France, was signed by the Minister of Defence, Mr Christoforos Fokaides and his French counterpart, Mr Jean – Yves Le Drian, in Paris, today.

The new Defense Agreement covers new areas of cooperation such as energy and maritime security, piracy, early warning and crisis management, and terrorism. The Agreement was considered vital by both parties in the framework of Cyprus and France’s bilateral relations and within the EU, and manifests the close friendly relations Cyprus and France enjoy. It further enhances the role of Cyprus as a contributor to the security and stability in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region.

The new Defence Agreement was signed in the framework of Minister Fokaides’s official visit to France.
