Earthquake strikes in Solomon islands

National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration said there was no tsunami threat

An earthquake with magnitude of 7.o struck near the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean , according to the U.S. Geological survey. The USGS later downgraded the quake to magnitude of 6.8.

The earthquake struck at 6:31 p.m. local time near the island of Santa Isabel.

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration said there was no tsunami threat.
