The Finance ministry came up with a new trick to collect faster the ENFIA tax, as Eleftheros Typos newspaper reports, by offsetting the tax refund payments against ENFIA tax to be paid.

As the article mentions, the tax offices will calculate any tax refund payments to qualified taxpayers and offset that amount against the ENFIA tax they have to pay.

In that way, the state will “seize” this year’s tax refund payments and collect in advance the ENFIA tax. Therefore, the taxpayers will not be able anymore to pay the ENFIA tax in five installments, as they used to.

For instance, if a taxpayer is qualified for a 500 euros tax refund and must pay 500 euros for ENFIA tax, then the tax refund payment will be offset against the ENFIA tax immediately.
