Greek merchant seaman dead in Nigerian Delta pirate attack

Another two Greek held as hostages – The attack occurred in open waters of Nigeria

A Greek merchant seaman died during a pirate attack against a Greek-owned tanker waiting to load oil off the Qua Iboe petrochemical hub in Nigeria.

The Maltese-flagged tanker has a listed crew of 23, including 10 Greek nationals.

During the attack, the Greek officer was fatally wounded, while three crew members were abducted, including the Greek captain and second officer.

The vessel remained anchored off the Nigerian coast.

The foreign ministry and Greek maritime authorities have been notified of the incident.

The vessel is operated by Piraeus-based Aelos Management S.A.
