Hikes in fuel and cigarettes to be enacted in October

Fuel to go up by 10 cents

Greeks will be called upon to pay the hiked special taxes much earlier than was initially expected, according to newspaper Eleftheros Typos. In a desperate effort to raise public revenues, the Greek government plans to bring forward the planned imposition of the new taxes on fuel and cigarettes to October 1. The price of fuel will rise between 4 and 10 cents per liter in October, while cigarettes will go up between 0.50 cents to a whole Euro.
