At least 14 people were killed when a small aircraft crashed today southwest of Juba, the capital of South Sudan, the country’s civil aviation authority announced.
Contact with the aircraft — a Cessna 208 Caravan operated by CityLink Aviation — was lost while it was en route from Yei to Juba International Airport.
The plane took off at 9:15 a.m. local time, and the control tower lost contact with it about half an hour later, at 9:43. On board were the pilot and 13 passengers, two of whom were Kenyan and the rest South Sudanese.
According to preliminary investigation findings, the crash may have been caused by poor weather conditions and low visibility.
