The US Capitol complex and White House are on lockdown after reports of shootings on Capitol Hill. Members of Congress and the tourists who were visiting the building were told to shelter in place, according to RT.

Shots were reportedly fired at the Capitol Visitor Center, an underground facility on the east side of the main building.

One police officer was shot, but “not seriously,” according to the Capitol’s Sergeant at Arms Frank Larkin. He said that the shooter has been caught, but the shelter-in-place order is still in effect.

According to NBC, the suspect entered the Capitol Visitors’ Center and pointed a gun at the police officer, who took him down with a single shot. The suspect has been taken to an area hospital.

At the time of the incident, the Congress was not in session.
