The interactive map of Nobel Prize organization for Nobel laureates and their country of birth shows Nobel winner Giorgos Seferis at Turkey’s laureates.

This interactive map reveals the number of Nobel laureates that each country has based on their country of birth.
Placing the cursor on Greece on the map, one would see Greece has only one Nobel laureate, Odysseus Elytis who won the Nobel Prize in Litetarature in 1979.

One, though, would expect to see also our second poet who received a Nobel prize, Giorgos Seferis. Instead, he is included in Turkey’s Nobel laureates.

Seferis was born at Vourla Smyrna in 1900 during the Ottoman period. And perhaps, this might be the reason to be included in Turkish laureates.

But, such an organization should not ignore the fact that Seferis chose to write in Greek and that his name is connected with Greek history.
