Pensioners blasted with chemicals by police during protests

The pensioners blame the Government for fooling them and for making further reductions in their pensions

Thousands of elderly citizens gathered on Monday at a demonstration against pension reductions. Tensions run high between the protesting pensioners and the police, resulting in the use of chemicals against the pensioners on Monday’s rally in Athens. The pensioners tried to reach the prime minister’s heavily guarded office, but the protestors’ bloc, made up mostly of elderly people was pushed back by riot police through the use of tear gas. The protestors’ representatives demanded that they be allowed to reach Alexis Tsipras’ office, at the Maximos Mansion, in order to personally express their grievances.
The rally disbursed after they were told that Tsipras was already in the Parliament. The pensioners blame the Government for fooling them and for making further reductions in their pensions. “You can’t fool us with tips, shame on those who are in government”, they shouted.
