Thessaloniki Urban Picnic festival kicks off September 1

The visitors in the northern city of Thessaloniki will be treated to a 4-day event full of music and songs from the city’s Municipality in conjunction with Parenthesis group. The Philharmonic Orchestra will perform renditions of famous rock and pop songs along with well known movie soundtracks on Thursday, September 1, ushering in Autumn. The 5th Picnic Urban Festival will take place in the Roman market between September 1 and 4 and includes among other things checkered table cloths on picnic tables, basses, contrabasses, trumpets, trombones and multi-coloured fans. The stage will be later occupied on Thursday by the band Super Stereo, while the first day of the festival will close with the screening of the Coen brothers’ movie ‘O Brother Where Art Thou’. On the second day of the picnic music groups Penguins and Far West will perform their rock renditions, followed by Rundays. The and of day 2 includes the showing of the movie ‘Goodbye Lenin’. Saturday, September 3, will kick off with indie-pop sounds filling the air, as Inner Sails and BrightSide will take to the stage. Another movie will end the 3rd day with the screening of ‘Medianeras’. Bands ‘Elevation Trio’ and ‘Balloon Over Glasgow’ will perform on the last day of the festival at the Roman Market while the film ‘Etz Limon’ will wrap up the 4-day event. The cost of entry is 3 Euros.
