SYRIZA minister: We’re not obliged to back bailout if not re-elected to govt!

Greek politics a la carte by outgoing interior minister

Newsroom August 24 11:18

In an incredibly example of “political expediency” on Monday, top ruling SYRIZA minister Nikos Voutsis appeared on television and essentially said that if his party is not re-elected to government then its deputies will not back the memorandum his outgoing government recently signed!

“If we do not receive a new approval (by voters) it is not necessary for us to participate in the implementation in the program we voted on, rather we can support or vote on specific measures for which we have committed,” he said in a televised appearance on the Athens radio station Skai.

He also added that Greek PM Alexis Tsipras was forced to resign and opt for snap elections given that SYRIZA deputies that backed the recent bailout memorandum fell below the 120-level that the former himself said was the minimum for support in Parliament.
