Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras admitted that the implementation of the EU-Turkey agreement is not easy task while welcoming EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos at Maximos Mansion on Monday.
“We now have to climb an uphill, because the implementation of the agreement will not be an easy task. However, if we did not have the agreement, we would have to face a domino of unilateral actions” Mr. Tsipras said.
He stressed the need of its immediate implementation and coordination in order to be efficient and referred to two conditions that need to be met so that the agreement is successful.
The first one concerns the reduction of flows from Turkey otherwise Greek islands will not be evacuated and the agreement will not be implemented. The second one concerns the manpower, adding that the Greek government will quickly proceed with the adaptation of the legislation, if needed, to facilitate cooperation between the Greek asylum committee and the European one.
On his part, the European Commissioner said that “Europe supports Greece” and estimated that the quick implementation of the agreement will improve the situation.
