Turkey makes official request to Greece for extradition of 8 officers charged with treason

8 men have applied for political asylum in Greece

According to Turkish news agency Anadolu, Turkey has sent a formal request for the extradition of 8 Turkish military officers to the Greek Foreign Ministry. The 8 men had landed in the northern Greek city of Alexandroupolis on July 16 in a military helicopter, a day after the coup attempt in Turkey and are accused of involvement in the overthrow of the legal Turkish government. Sources told the Anadolu agency that the extradition file was prepared by the Turkish Justice Ministry. The 8 men debt the accusations and have applied for political asylum in Greece fearing their lives would be in danger if they returned to Turkey.
