The Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar visited Libya and he brought with him…maps.
According to reports from Turkish media, the Turkish Minister in his contacts with executives of the Libyan government stated that Greece intends to usurp a large part of the Libyan continental shelf.
Mr. Akar presented Libyan officials a series of Turkish maps: one map showed the alleged violations of Greece, and on the second map he showed what the “real” boundaries are in his opinion.
On this second map, Mr Akar basically eliminates the entire Greek continental shelf in the Eastern Mediterranean, claiming that no island, not even Cyprus or Crete, may have an impact on the sea areas around them.
The visit of Hulusi Akar to Libya took place last week and with him was also the Turkish Chief of General Staff, General Yasar Guller, while the meeting in which the maps were presented was made on a military base.
