Two SYRIZA MPs say ‘no’ to Avramopoulos for president

Last person nominated for Greece’s thoroughly figurehead president failed to get 180 out 300 votes from MPs in Parliament

Αt least two ruling SYRIZA deputies on Monday took to cyberspace to air their objection to their radical leftist party nominating EU Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos for Greece’s new president.

MPs Dimitris Kodelas and Ioanna Gaitani said expressed opposition with a candidate emanating from the right or center-right, as they said.

The last person nominated to be Greece’s thoroughly figurehead president was former EU Commissioner Stavros Dimas, who failed to receive 180 out 300 votes from MPs in Parliament. That failure, credited to the previous Samaras ND government, led to snap election that Samaras duly lost.
