U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants François Crépeau visited the makeshift refugee camp of Idomeni on Friday.
He met with representatives from medical aid group Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and was briefed about the situation in the camp and the problems that about 10,000 people living in the area are facing every day.
As the field coordinator, Emmanuel Massar, stated one of the issues set by MSF to the U.N. Special Rapporteur was the fact that “on a daily basis we are dealing with the effects of the European Union’s policy on the refugees and especially of the EU-Turkey deal, which is completely inhuman and against the spirit of EU laws and the protection of migrants.”
Crépeau’s visit to Greece will conclude on Monday, when he will present his preliminary conclusions on human rights for refugees in Greece in a press conference. His full report will be presented at the UN Council on Human Rights on June 2017.
