A total lunar eclipse will paint the moon red in the Holy Week. But this is the first out of four expected to be seen in the upcoming months.
This phenomenon, also called “blood moon”, is the first in a series of four consecutive total eclipses. The moon gets red during the eclipse as it passes through Earth’s shadow, which has the colour of the sunset on the desert.
The four blood moons will occur on the following dates: April 15th, 2014 , October 8, 2014 , April 4, 2015 and September 28, 2015 .
NASA, however , explains that this is a relatively rare phenomenon: “There are about two lunar eclipses per year, but most of them are not complete and they usually go unnoticed”.
