The city that Adolf Hitler named “The Center of the Nazi movement”, Munich, will host the Nazi Museum, in a whitewashed building designed in the modern art style.
The museum will present the atmosphere of Nazi Germany and the focal point of the exhibition to be hosted within, will aim to inform the public about the role the city of Munich played in Hitler’s rise to power. The idea of creating a Nazi Museum was first introduced in 1945, after the defeat of Nazi Germany. An idea that still divides the public and causes great concern as to the exhibits to be included in the museum and on issues such as its funding.
Eventually, in 2001, the green light for the implementation of the museum was given, which will be housed next to the “Brown House”, the building which was the headquarters of the National Socialist Party. The museum will be named “Munich Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism” and will be inaugurated on April 20th, 2015, to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Munich by U.S. troops.
At the time that Hitler was in power, the area around the Brown House was the “showcase” of the Nazis. The buildings in the surrounding area hosted offices of the National Socialist Party and the central square of the area was transformed into a place for mass rallies. The area was the hangout of only Nazi bureaucrats and SS officers.
Local authorities estimate that the Museum will welcome more than 140000 visitors a year.
