Article 106 provides, among other things, that the state will plan and coordinate economic activity in the country, private economic initiative is not allowed at the expense of freedom and human dignity or to the detriment of the national economy and the law may regulate the acquisition by purchase of enterprises or the compulsory participation therein of the state or other public agancies, in the event these enterprises are of the nature of a monopoly or are of vital importance to the development of sources of national wealth or are primarily intended to offer services to the community as a whole.

The President of the Federation, Mr Daskalopoulos, in the letter towards Prime Minister, states that “Article 106 is not compatible with the modern constitution we need and is not in line with the economic reality nor with the prevailing philosophy and practice of private economy which is called to serve as the main lever for the growth of the country”.
