Hellenic Police fear a hit against a pro-memorandum target, even before the elections. Counterterrorism officials consider the resurgence of Revolutionary Struggle with a car – bomb against a clearly symbolic target as the most likely scenario. “Maziotis has the operational capability to do it… Let’s not forget that a few days before the hit in Amerikis Str., he had taken part in a robbery in Kleitoria, Achaia in which a police officer was shot,” says an officer with detailed knowledge of the situation.
Given that Nikos Maziotis likes playing with symbolism, analysts agree on the view that the elections are something of a “ground zero” for a Revolutionary Struggle explosive resurgence. There are also concerns amongst the higher echelons of Attica General Police Headquarters regarding the next moves of Christodoulos Ksiros. Everything indicates that 17N’s Manolis has been trained in the construction of camouflaged bombs (he is considered responsible for the book-bomb sent to Itea police precinct) and that he will soon strike again. His plans remain unknown but the authorities consider a hit against an economic (pro-memorandum) target highly possible, as Christodoulos Ksiros released after his escape a “Proclamation” against the memorandum .
The Ministry of Public Order is holding daily meetings that focus on the redesigning and intensification of the security measures and especially to the reaction of the police forces in the case of a bombing attack without warning, in the style of Christodoulos Ksiros.
Ksiros was trained in prison
In order to anticipate the next moves of Christodoulos Ksiros’ team, the Counterterrorism officers are trying to find out who trained 17N’s Manolis in the construction of such lethal bombs. According to information, most of the training was not done during the four months he’s been out but in prison. According to analysts, when Ksiros started to communicate freely with members of the Nuclei organization, he gained access to expertise in the building of modern explosive devices. It is estimated that a large part of the notes that were sent from prison to the outside “partners” of Nuclei organization had to do with the education of Christodoulos Ksiros.
Civil War in 17N
At the same time, a strange “civil war” has broken out between the incarcerated members of 17N. Letters, innuendos and revelations are exchanged between the two sides (on the one side we have Giotopoulos – Tzortzatos and on the other Dimitris Koufodinas) regarding the organization operations and the relationship between its members. No-one, however, is saying a word about Christodoulos and his actions.
