Close associates of Minister of Justice, Charalambos Athanassiou, say that such instances like this envelope containing three bullets of 7.72 mm and a threatening note, is very common. The envelope was sent through Post Office to Supreme Court Public Prosecution’s Office.
“It’s not the first time that Mr Athanasiou receives threatening notes as it is not the first time that judges are threatened” Minister’s close associates said talking to Proto THEMA and added that there is a concern about similar actions but it is not something that worries them a lot.
According to court officials, the prosecutor of the Supreme Court, Mrs Koutzamani Efterpi was very calm and continued her work after the envelope was found. She was even impressed by the way the sender of the envelope thought to show her that the message concerned her.
The sender of the envelope signed as “Alepoudelis”, which is the real name of Odysseus Elytis, who came from Mytilene. Mrs Koutzamani Efterpi is from Mytilene, too.
However, when judges found out the content of the envelope, they were worried at first but afterwards they all calmed down and continued their work.
The envelope contained three bullets of 7,62 mm each (from a Kalashnikov weapon) and a threatening note with an ancient Greek writing image involving relatives of prosecutors and ministers in general.
Furthermore, the sender asked for prisoners to be releases without, though, mentioning specific persons.
According to information, authorities believe that the sender of the envelope might be a member of Golden Dawn, but they keep all options open, since the investigations of Anti-terrorism unit are in progress.
The Golden Dawn, though, reacted immediately against the first estimations that the bullets and the threatening note are linked to the case of the Golden Dawn and rushed to complain about the parastatal mechanism.
