“The Bank of Greece has been warning about the upcoming crisis since 2008 and the fact that we were living on borrowed money was not taken into account by the politicians,”. This is what the outbound governor of the Bank of Greece Giorgos Provopoulos stated during the presentation of the book “The history of the Bank of Greece – The years of the Great Depression 2008 – 2013,”.
Mr. Provopoulos noted that we avoided the collapse and exit from the eurozone thanks to the coordinated efforts made in June 2012, when banknotes from the Bank of Austria and Italy were transferred.
As newmoney.gr reports, all these are revealed while the General Board of the Bank of Greece decided to propose Yannis Stournaras as the new governor of the Bank of Greece.
