Oscar award-winning actress Meryl Streep will take on the role of iconic opera diva Maria Callas in an upcoming biopic for HBO, an adaptation of Terrence McNally’s Tony Award-winning play, “Master Class”.

“Master Class” made its Broadway debut in 1995 and is a life-depicting work that tells the story of Callas and her teaching experience at the Julliard School in 1971, including a focus on her love affair with Aristotle Onassis. In the work, the star recollects and retells the story of her life.

After depicting the life of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher and chef Julia Child, Streep will step into the role of the legendary diva.

Filming is set to start in January 2015.
