The leading Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis notes: “I am particularly excited that my work played in such an important area as the Marble. I would like to express my thanks to the National Opera and Artistic Director of Myron Michailidis’.

Choreographer Lorca Massin has presented the first version of Zorba in 1976 at the National Opera, while utilizing Mikis Theodorakis music that he composed in 1964 for the homonym film of Michael Cacoyannis. Ten years later, the composer chose various parts of his work in order to support the story of Zorba. The draft was submitted to the Festival of Verona, where it was proposed to him to orchestrate all the material, which he did in the period of eight months in Paris.
Mikis Theodorakis conducted the first performance of the new project in the Verona Arena in August 1990 in front of 18,000 spectators. Until today Zorba has appeared in more than 30 countries, from Australia to Europe and Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro in front of 150,000 people in total.
