Many celebrities have chosen in recent years to speak openly about their sexuality and come out as gay.
Even in the modern day and age, such an act requires great courage, as there is always the danger of facing the disapproval of the audience.
Wentworth Miller, the famous Prison Break star who came out as gay in August 2013 had the same exact fear. However, Wentworth’s coming out had a political flavor: he spoke openly about his sexuality when he refused to attend a film festival in Russia following Russia’s attack against the LGBT movement.
A few days ago, Wentworth told Details magazine that he feels liberated since he came out as gay. He said, specifically: “I feel more fully expressed. After Prison Break, I came to grips with the fact that my public persona was in misalignment with how I actually felt. I was out to a handful of people in my twenties, and once I hit 30, I was out to family and friends. But professionally, I was feeding a fantasy. I created this air of ‘We don’t address that thing’.”
When asked whether he regrets denying his homosexuality in interviews and lying to his fans when he was still in the closet, he explained: “My face was on billboards, and I thought it was my job to act a certain way. But I think audiences knew to a certain degree.”
