The body of the 68 year-old monk who had been missing since Tuesday after the boat he was on board capsized in the sea region of Athos, was recovered on Thursday off the sea area of Simonos Petras monastery.

Two other monks that were in the same boat with the victim have been rescued.

According to information, the Coast Guard located the body at a 48 meter depth in the area of Arsana.

The authorities estimate that the monk drowned when his foot was caught in the boat’s ropes.
