An increase of 15% compared to the same period of August in 2013 record this year the tourist accommodations on Thassos, according to statements by the President of the Association of Hoteliers island Mr. Dimitris Papadimitriou.

Mr. Papadimitriou, while speaking to ANA-MPA, he featured this August as the best in recent years, based on attendance and reservations noted in the most popular month for the tourism sector, adding that the message for September is also very positive.

“It’s a great August for tourism in Thassos” said Mr. Papadimitriou and added: “August is the best of all time. The increase exceeds the 15% in bookings compare to last year. All traditional markets of Europe returned to the island. Nordic countries, Germany, England. tourists from Balkan countries continue to support us, and the trend is upward and to the tourists who come from Turkey and especially Istanbul. ”

According to the president of the Hotel Association of Thassos, the fullness in large hotel complexes on the island was and will be at 100% until the end of August, while close to 90% of occupancy showing all tourist accommodation for the first days of September.

The increased occupancy in September creates optimism for the professionals of the tourism industry on the island as the good season seems to expand. However, as pointed out by Mr. Papadimitriou, “there are always unknown factors, because this summer, although it was profitable for the hotel units, it was at the same time and difficult, based on the events that occurred in nearby areas, such as our floods in Serbia or events in Ukraine.”
