The leadership of the Ministry of Labour will be in Paris on Tuesday hoping to persuade troika’s representatives to accept the Greek positions in order to close the open fronts with the employment and insurance issues. The government’s message to the Troika is clear: no more measures, do not insist on austerity measures.

This position was also expressed by Gikas Hardouvelis in his first interview as Finance Minister saying that Troika should not be “right on our necks”.

Speaking to New York Times, Mr. Hardouvelis stressed that “I hope this has taught them a lesson, and they don’t insist so much on the fiscal side,” noting that a Greek recovery would be undercut by any “new, onerous targets.”

“Greece has done most of the reforms; the next phase is to solidify them, to make sure they don’t reverse,” he said adding “I think it will be done in a more efficient way in the future, precisely because the troika is not right on our neck. They’ll be staying in the background.”
