Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis talked on CNBC from Paris on the sidelines of meetings with troika representatives and appeared confident that Greece’s economy would start to grow in 2014 after six years of recession.
Mr. Mitsotakis referred also to the electronic governance and administrative reforms that are in progress. Regarding the reforms in the public sector and the 6,500 lay-offs scheduled for this year, he said that this target would be achieved within a timeframe.
However, as he said, “I do not consider this as the most important issue when talking about administrative reform”.
He mentioned that during the last five years the administration staff has been reduced by 200,000 employees and salary costs dropped down by 30% (from 24 billion euros to 16 billion euros).
Mr. Mitsotakis also referred to the clear improvement of the climate in the international markets in relation to Greece and added that the country had gradually restored its credibility.
