A book written by Oscar Broneer and published in 1941, but it has never been translated in Greek, contains rare photographs of the lion monument of Amphipolis.

The imposing sculpture was discovered in pieces on the banks of Strymonas river.

In 1912 during the First Balkan War, Greek soldiers spotted some marbles into the bushes on the west bank of Strymonas river.

It took a long time for the lion monument to be associated with the tomb, since the fragments were found scattered and far away from the tomb site.
