A virtual museum on Alexander the Great is near completion, as archaeologist Angeliki Kottaridou said during an event held in Thessaloniki on Tuesday.

The project begun in 2000 and, as Kottaridou said, archaeologists had actually travelled to India and Bactria, tracing the Macedonian leader’s path in order to help create the virtual museum.

The virtual museum will be accessible in Greek and English.

It will include rich digital content and personalized information services allowing visitors to follow any of several paths, including virtual rooms with QTVR objects or 3D objects, digital photos, videos, texts, digital library with theme-related films and documentaries and written sources, digital maps, etc.

Its physical base would be at the Museum of Aegae, in northern Greece, which was also the location of the Macedonian dynasty’s seat.

The project was announced at an event presenting a new series of books by Kathimerini newspaper.
