According to an announcement that was issued after the conclusion of a meeting between all agencies involved at the health ministry, a series of precautionary measures will be taken against the spread of Ebola virus in Greece.

More specifically, it was decided by the experts who took part in the meeting, including scientists from the Hellenic Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (HCDCP) and the National Centre for Health Operations, that the country’s entry points should be reinforced with additional staff that has been especially trained to deal with the virus and is fully briefed on the symptoms of the disease and how it is spread.

Moreover, passengers arriving from high-risk countries, such as Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, will be asked to fill in a special questionnaire providing information about possible symptoms of the disease.

The experts also decided to issue regularly updated recommendations to the public and public health authorities regarding Ebola and any new information concerning the disease.

Laboratories have been designated that will test clinical samples should a suspected case is reported. A hospital has also been identified for suspected Ebola cases that is fully prepared to receive patients.
