According to information leaked from Amphipolis, tomorrow the representatives of the excavators will confirm the disclosure of Persephone. In this way the entire project will be restored and the bearded charioteer will be identified with the god of the underworld, Pluto.
A the soil gets removed from the right edge of the famous mosaics which was found in the second chamber in the Tomb caste, the entire project emerges . According to protothema.gr information, the complete image is sensational.
Although the “direction” of the depiction is original, with the appearance of Persephone emerges a visual theme which constituted a common place for the luxurious funerary monuments of late antiquity. Let’s not forget that a respective depiction was found in the Great Tumulus of Vergina.
However, archaeologists believe that Mercury, Pluto and Persephone compose an image, foreshadowing a second mosaic, maybe even a more elaborate and impressive, which could be found on the floor of the third chamber.
Researchers will have to remove about 4 meters of soil until they reach the floor of the specific area, since the soil covers half if the rooms height. At the same time, the scenario that wants the third chamber to be the last of the monument, , gains ground.
The discovery of the mosaic in the space behind the Caryatids, has temporarily shifted the interest of who is buried and whether the tomb has been looted or not. However, the fact that there have been no findings of any kind of objects, enhances the most pessimistic scenarios, that the tomb was looted.
