Greece’s largest telecom group (OTE) announced that it won the exclusive rights to air football matches of the UEFA Champions League (133 out 146 matches in total exclusively) and Europa League (exclusivity for all 204 matches). OTE – 40% owned and managed by Germany’s Deutsche Telecom – said its pay-TV unit will broadcast all UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League matches for three years from July 2015. It did not reveal the cost of the deal.

The move could mean that OTE lowers or even withdraws its offer for Forthnet’s Nova, which has the exclusive rights for Ch. League and Greece’s major football league matches until summer of 2015 and 2017, respectively.

In other news, OTE announced it continued with its piecemeal share buyback plan on Monday. The company owns 1,454,120 shares or 0.297% of total outstanding.
