S. Tourlakidou: From humble Greek hand-me-downs to cult vintagista (photos)

Greek fashion designer/stylist Sofia Tourlakidou sees her brand of vintage fly off her virtual shelves

Newsroom November 6 08:16

Greek Sofia Tourlakidou started SoLovesVintage, an online London-based boutique, to offer high end vintage clothing and accessories just as the crisis was rearing its head in Greece in 2009. Before she knew it she received cult celebrity status.

As she explains on her site SoLovesVintage site:

“Once upon a time while I was looking for a job in the Fashion Industry I stumbled upon a business idea that was too good to resist as it combined my two loves: fashion and vintage clothing. I see vintage dressing as an extension of my personality where it becomes a great journey by taking part of someone else’s past and adding it to my present and then taking it into the future. My fascination to hunt for that ‘one piece’ is so strong that the rush of adrenaline is twice that of a bungee jump.”

The premise of Ms. Tourlakidou’s online boutique is that you don’t have to be a vintagista or millionairess to dress like celebrity vintage lovers such as Kate moss, the Olsen sisters and Dita Von Teese. It makes vintage clothing less intimidating by giving valuable tips as to how these can be integrated into a modern wardrobe.

Ms. Tourlakidou’s interest in one-of-a-kind items of clothing that nobody else was wearing stems from her childhood in Greece where she’d look for unique finds in second-hand shops. These days, she goes to auctions, charity shops, antiques stores, markets and anywhere else to find items for her personal collection as well as her online boutique.

Here are some vintage combos that she shared with My Daily.
