Today, Wednesday, the country continues to be affected by elevated concentrations of African dust, according to ProtoThema meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias.

Western Greece will be mainly affected, and gradually the Aegean islands as well. The dust transport from the Sahara is expected to begin weakening from Friday.

Despite the dust, generally fair weather conditions are expected on land and at sea today, making the return of holiday travelers easier.

More specifically, according to Tsatrafyllias, cloud cover will prevail in most regions. From the morning hours, central and northern Greece will experience light muddy rain.

Maximum temperatures will reach 22–23°C in central Greece and Crete, around 16°C in northern Greece, and 19–20°C in the rest of the country. At night, temperatures will not exceed 11°C in the eastern mainland and 15–16°C in the islands and western Greece.

Winds in the Ionian Sea will blow from the southeast at up to 6 Beaufort, while in the Aegean they will be northeasterly at up to 5 Beaufort, gradually turning to northerly winds everywhere.

In Attica, no rain is expected, only cloud cover and dust. Winds will blow from the northeast, reaching up to 5 Beaufort in the Euboean Gulf and 4 Beaufort in the Saronic Gulf. Temperatures will range from 11°C to 21°C.

In Thessaloniki, light showers are expected until midday. Winds will be almost calm in the Thermaic Gulf, with temperatures ranging from 9°C to 16°C.

On Thursday and mainly Friday, the dust will begin to retreat. Northerly winds will prevail everywhere, while rainfall will be limited and scattered.
