From touristy tavernas to classy Michelin-stared restaurants, Athens offers a wide range of dining choices, making Greece’s capital the ideal destination for foodies.

However, those who are travelling on a budget can also enjoy a variety of delicious inexpensive meals in Athens, including tasty street food, the world famous souvlaki, as well as delicious desserts for just a few euros.

These the best budget meals one can enjoy in the Greek capital:

Koulouri
A plain, circular bread topped with sesame seeds, Koulouri is a popular breakfast choice among Greeks. Average cost: 0.50 euro

A delicious Greek pastry food, made with layers of buttered phyllo and filled with a cheese mixture. Average cost: 1 euro

A combination of delicious, yet mostly unhealthy ingredients, it’s the perfect way to fill your stomach and help prevent the onset of a hangover after a night of heavy drinking.
