Justice Minister Haralambos Athanassiou refered to hunger striker Nikos Romanos during his talk in Parliament discussing the Draft 2015 Budget. “I wish Nikos Romanos could realize that whatever dreams he has for the future, whatever he wants to do, even if he wants to continue hating the state, the system and myself, can only be done if he is alive and well,” said Mr. Athanassiou.
He said that the States’ rejection of Mr. Romanos education furlough was not due to the government’s lack of desire to grant him one but because that is what the law says regarding inmates.
Meanwhile, Mr. Romanos is on the 28th day of his hunger strike with deteriorating health at Gennimatas hospital. He has also threatened that soon he will also soon stop drinking water.
