His Eminence Metropolitan Bishop Dorotheos of Syros, Tinos, Andros, Kea and Milos is a persona non grata on the isle of Tinos following changes to Law 4301/7-10-2014 that turns the famous sacride shrine of the Pan-Hellenic Holy Foundation of Evangelistria of Tinos from a Private Legal Entity (NPID) to an ecclesiastic institution.

For the last 200 years the site has operated as a legal entity under public law, under the supervision of the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs, and has been a financially independent charitable foundation. The change in the jurisdiction of the site has angered the residents of the islands, who inundated the courtyard shouting abuse at the bishop.

Tinos Mayor Simeon Orfanos told protothema.gr that he, and the police, had to help the bishop fight through the mob in order to escape.

Mr. Orfanos is getting ready to appeal the decision as it was voted on by just 8 of the 33 members of the administration, hence it should be nullified.
